Leading players from Northern Ireland's most popular sports faced each other in a three way race to gear up for the imminent arrival of a customised BT super-fast broadband bus.
The 100 metre charity sprint between GAA's James Loughrey (Antrim), Rugby's Fiyin Olayisade (Harlequins) and Soccer's Mark Patton (Lisburn Distillery) was held at Mary Peter's track to herald the arrival of the BT Infinity bus which will visit the Balmoral area from the 21st — 24th May 2010.
The custom designed double-decker bus, which will be parked at the Kennedy Centre in Andersonstown, gives consumers and businesses the chance to see first hand how this new superfast broadband service can transform online time. With download speeds of up to 40Mb/s and uploads of up to 10Mb/s, the broadband technology provides a more powerful internet connection allowing multiple users to do more online at the same time and in an instant.
During the bus visit BT will also be looking to crown a Superfamily which can demonstrate that they use the internet as an integral part of their homelife. The triumphant family will join other Superfamilies from across the UK, receiving a free 18-month subscription to BT Infinity and challenged to showcase what's possible with the internet in an instant.
For homes in Balmoral:
BT Infinity will transform the way families use the internet. Demos on board the bus will show how homes with multiple computers and internet devices will enjoy the simultaneous use of services such as HD TV, gaming, social networking and the sharing of large files like photos or films, amongst others.
For businesses in Balmoral:
Businesses with the new super-fast fibre optic broadband service will have a dedicated broadband 'fast lane', allowing faster working when using multiple internet tools like high-definition video conferencing and cloud applications at the same time. Home working is also better supported allowing staff to remain in touch regardless of weather or traffic jams!
Peter Morris, Consumer Director, BT says, 'We are so excited that the people of Balmoral are getting fibre optic broadband and Belfast has been chosen as the first location in the UK to launch the Infinity Tour. We know that the people of Balmoral, like so many others, are demanding more from the internet as they spend more and more time online and use it for more things. I know what it is like in my house, it can be difficult when everyone is trying to get online at the same time and BT Infinity will make a real positive difference to that experience.'
Colm O'Neill, Managing Director, BT Business says, 'The effect that fibre optic broadband can have on a business is something that should excite business owners throughout the Balmoral area. With fibre optic broadband, businesses can increase productivity and streamline their work to the advantage of the employer and the employees. We are delighted to be delivering this product and would encourage business owners to visit the BT Infinity bus to see the true potential of super-fast broadband.'
The super-fast broadband bus will be located at the Kennedy Centre in Andersonstown from Friday 21st to Monday 24th May. Consumers and businesses are invited to come along and visit the bus during those dates.
