About BT Ireland

BT Ireland is the all island arm of BT Group, the world's oldest communications company. Since its origin in 1846, BT has gone on to become one of the world’s leading communications services companies with a footprint in over 500 countries.

Technology innovation is at the core of our company, and we are at the forefront of bringing next generation networks, services and skills to our customers.  We have the largest fibre network on the island of Ireland and are one of the leading providers of networked IT services. With annual revenues of £739.9 million and close to 3,000 employees, we have significant local operations in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

In the Republic of Ireland, our company has grown from a challenger brand to become the second largest fixed line operator in the country by revenue. Our core business lies in providing networked IT services to global multi-national corporations (MNCs), indigenous exporters, government and major enterprises.BT’s global reach, with connectivity and collaboration services offering across the globe, underpins the success of international corporations looking to address global markets. Many of the US and international organisations who are based in Ireland to serve customers across EMEA and the thriving indigenous export sector both run their sales, service and supply operations across BT solutions.

Locally, customers such as Bank of Ireland, EMC, Grafton, Airtricity, Bank of Scotland (Ireland), Ryanair and the Irish government employ BT solutions for local and international connectivity and communications. We are a leader in the provision of wholesale network services for other communication providers and manage the networks of three of the four mobile operators including 3 Ireland for whom we are delivering the Irish government’s National Broadband Scheme as a subcontractor. We also operate the 999/112 emergency call answering service on behalf of the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources.

We employ many of the leading network and IT services experts on the island, with over 300 accredited and certified professionals and have a unique capability to draw on the experience and global capacity of the BT Global network where required. We are a multi award winning partner of technology leaders such as Cisco, Avaya, Microsoft, HP,Dell, VMWare and EMC, and we work with them to design, integrate and manage complex ICT solutions to meet our customers’ requirements.

BT Ireland also operates the country’s leading commercial data centre campus based across two independent yet interconnected facilities in Citywest in Dublin and an additional facility in Belfast. We have invested over €60 million in the past 10 years to increase the capacity and efficiency of our centre, which is the only specific ISO 20000 and 270001 accredited data centre in Ireland. We provide a suite of SLA driven solutions  ranging from core co-location and high performance   internet bandwidth to secure ‘Infrastructure as a Service’ solutions that are catered to customer needs, be it shared, dedicated, scalable or fixed.

In Northern Ireland, BT is the leading communications provider to consumers and small and medium businesses and is also the leading networked IT services partner of government and major customers. We are responsible for building one of the world’s most advanced communications infrastructures making Northern Ireland the first region outside London to achieve 90% broadband availability. We are currently embarking on a Government backed project to deliver improved broadband services for some of Northern Ireland’s most remote and rural locations, giving many people access to high speed fibre broadband for the very first time.

We provide ‘total communications’ services for business and government organisations in Northern Ireland. We design, build and manage our customers’ networks, bringing together all their communications and IT services securely and efficiently. For other communications providers we provide our leading edge fibre network on an open access basis giving consumers choice and flexibility by allowing them to choose their preferred provider.

At BT we are committed to using the power of communications technology to improve lives and ways of doing business - without it costing the earth.  We do this through our Better Future programme which focuses on three main areas - connecting people digitally, making sure we do more environmental good than harm and providing skills and technology to support good causes.

Employee involvement is a key element of this programme and BT Ireland people get involved in many activities in our communities. This year we organised the 50th BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition, which broke all records for participation and visitors. 2014 was BT’s 14th year as organiser and sponsor of this renowned exhibition and over 200 of our people volunteered at the event.

In 2013, BT volunteers raised €100,000 in the Great BT Charity Shops Challenge for the Irish Cancer Society and Marie Curie Cancer Care. We also work with community groups through our Connected Communities programme, to provide IT equipment and training coursesacross the island of Ireland.
